SECCAP for O-Level Students: Equivalence and Application Guide

Why O-Level Students Need Extra Preparation

Students who completed O-Levels study under a different grading system from matric students. Their grades are recorded as letters, not as marks out of a total, and their subjects may not map directly onto local groups. The SECCAP system therefore needs an equivalence document that converts O-Level results into a form comparable with matric results.
This extra step is not a barrier. It is a standard process, but it takes time, and students who start it late are the ones who run into trouble.

What Equivalence Means

Equivalence is an official conversion of your O-Level grades into equivalent local marks, issued by the relevant authority. It allows the admission system to place you on a comparable merit basis with matric students. Without it, your application may be incomplete, or your merit may not be calculated correctly.
The exact authority, form, and fee for equivalence can change, so check the current official instructions before you apply. Do not rely on last year’s process or on advice from social media alone.

Start Early: The Single Most Important Advice

Equivalence processing can take weeks, especially during admission season when many students apply at once. If you wait until the last date for SECCAP applications, you may not receive your equivalence certificate in time.
Start the equivalence process as soon as your O-Level results are available, and ideally before the SECCAP application window opens. Keep copies of everything you submit, and note down any reference number you receive.

Documents O-Level Students Should Prepare

Keep your O-Level result statement, your school leaving certificate or equivalent proof of study, your B-Form or CNIC, your parent or guardian CNIC where required, recent photographs, and your equivalence certificate once issued. If you studied subjects that do not directly match a local group, keep your subject details ready as well, because the admission authority may ask about them.
Check that your name on all documents matches exactly. A spelling difference between your O-Level statement and your B-Form can cause delays, just as it can for matric students.

Choosing a Group After O-Levels

Your O-Level subjects should guide your group choice. Students with science subjects usually consider Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering, or Computer Science, depending on their subjects and interests. Students with commerce or humanities subjects should look at the corresponding groups. Do not choose a group simply because a friend chose it. Check the subject requirements for each group on the official portal, and choose the group that matches both your subjects and your future plans.
If you are unsure whether a particular group is open to you, check the current official instructions rather than guessing. A wrong group choice can affect your allotment and your future studies.

Filling the SECCAP Form as an O-Level Student

When you fill in the online form, enter your details exactly as they appear on your equivalence certificate and O-Level statement. If the form asks for a board, select the option that applies to your qualification, as instructed on the portal. If you are unsure about any field, read the help text on the form or the official instructions before submitting.
After submission, save your application number and confirmation page. Check your application status regularly, and respond promptly if the portal asks for a correction or an additional document.

Common Mistakes O-Level Students Make

The most common mistake is starting equivalence too late. The second is assuming that O-Level grades alone, without equivalence, are enough for the system. The third is choosing a group without checking subject requirements. The fourth is entering grades from memory instead of from the official statement and equivalence certificate.
All four are avoidable with early preparation and careful checking.

A Simple Timeline for O-Level Applicants

First, receive your O-Level results and apply for equivalence immediately. Second, while equivalence is being processed, prepare your other documents and research colleges and groups. Third, when the SECCAP application window opens, fill in the form using your equivalence details. Fourth, submit before the last date, save your confirmation, and monitor the portal for merit lists and allotments.
